Open Science: 'The academic community as a whole appreciates it when data is openly available' @VU

The Vrije Universiteit (VU) has developed a guideline that explicitly links Open Science to Recognition & Rewards.

The guideline sets out in concrete terms how Open Science takes shape in research, teaching and impact. They introduce two roles for academics: role model and stimulator. These roles offer the opportunity to emphasise this topic within their careers and to receive recognition and rewards for doing so.

In this interview, the creators explain how the guideline was developed. It is interesting to read what is standard practice for one faculty but a challenge for another. It took sheer teamwork to produce a single guideline for the whole of the VU.
