Future-proof and more inclusive academic management

On 1 October 2025, the Dutch Network of Women Professors (LNVH) published its research report Managing Academia: Access, Professional Appreciation, and Institutional Influence in Dutch Academic Management Roles. The report highlights that formalised and transparent appointment procedures are crucial to ensuring fair access to management positions and to meaningfully advancing diversity. In addition, the report underscores the importance of professional development, sufficient time and resources, and structural mentoring, enabling academic leaders to perform their roles with excellence and to safeguard social safety within their institutions.
