Abstract

Many steps have been taken since the publication of Room for everyone's talent in 2019. Each institution has set up a Recognition & Rewards committee and numerous experiments have been launched. In 2023 a new phase has begun in which all the institutions participating in the Recognition & Rewards programme will be implementing new processes and tools to embed Recognition & Rewards in practice. We have published a road map that outlines what we aim to achieve. This road map Room for everyone’s talent in practice makes the collectively initiated culture change visible, sustainable and concrete.

The countries around us are watching the Dutch Recognition & Rewards programme with great interest and are moving in a similar direction. In 2022, the Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment was published. The fact that many changes are now also being implemented outside of the Netherlands is good news, since science is quintessentially international.
