R&R festival 2023

Dear colleague,

You are receiving this message because you became a member of the Recognition & Rewards online festival environment in 2023. We are closing this online environment. That is good news.

Good news? Indeed. You can still find all the material you found there in our platform's Knowledge Base. In addition, a larger part of RRview is now also publicly accessible since this summer. Each university has its own page, making RRview the national point of contact for questions about healthy academic assessment, leadership, team science and working practices. And if you are interested in joining the discussion, you are welcome to become a member of the private section.

However, it also means that we will be deactivating memberships that only grant access to this festivalenvironment. If this applies to you, you will no longer receive updates from us and will no longer have access. We will deactivate the profiles associated exclusively with this environment on 17 November.

We'd also like to share some nice updates with you...

Survey among deans

The theme from the festival back then, Rethinking Assessment, is still relevant today. Last summer, the CWTS in Leiden presented the results of a survey about quality criteria among deans. One of the interesting findings was that almost half of the faculties are in a transitional phase, in which policies and processes are being reviewed, experiments are being conducted and implementation is actively underway. We also see that there is a strong need among academics for clear and transparent assessment criteria; however, some faculties are struggling with the practical implementation of these criteria. Curious? Read more here.

Assessment of Early Careers

During the 2023 festival, one of the conclusions was that early-career scientists deserved a greater role in the programme. After all, it is about their future. We are pleased to report that last week, the University of Twente announced that it is adjusting the assessment criteria and procedure for PhD students (in addition to abolishing the cum laude designation for PhDs). In addition, Leiden University Medical Centre presented a PhD framework last summer, and Utrecht University is currently running the “Room for every PhD candidate” project.
In short, there are plenty of developments underway.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me on RRview.

I hope to see you on RRview, or elsewhere!

@claartjechajes, cummunitymanager
